YOUTH SPORTS: Must-Have Spring Sports Equipment for Your Active Kid
Spring is here and kids are bursting with energy to get outside and play. If your child is preparing for the spring sports season, having the right equipment to practice at home can make all the difference. Practicing what they learn in sports class at home not only boosts their confidence and excitement about playing, but is also a great opportunity for family time together to connect.
Whether your little athlete is into soccer, baseball, track & field, or football, we’ve rounded up the must-have equipment to kick off the season right—without overwhelming your garage (or your budget!). This equipment is tried and true from Inclyousion Sports classes and if you’re interested in checking out one of our spring sports programs, visit our locations here!
⚽️ Soccer Must-Haves
A Good Soccer Ball
You can’t play without it! Choose the right size ball for your child’s age (typically size 3 for ages 8 and under, size 4 for 8–12, and size 5 for 13+). Bonus points for fun colors or designs that make it feel extra special. This ball is one of our favorites.
Backyard Soccer Goal
Turn your backyard or local park into a practice field with a portable soccer goal. Look for pop-up or foldable options that are easy to set up and store. This goal is light and easy to store when not in use!
⚾️ Baseball Must-Haves
Baseball Options (Glove + Balls)
Every player needs a properly sized glove and a few baseballs for catch and practice. If they’re just starting out, softer “safety” balls are a great beginner-friendly option. Here’s a great first option that works well with a variety of bats.
Bat Options
The right bat makes a big difference. Make sure it’s sized correctly for your child’s height and strength. Lightweight aluminum bats are great for younger players, and first timers may benefit from using plastic bats.
Batting Tee (If Needed)
Perfect for beginners learning to hit, a batting tee helps build confidence and coordination. It’s also a great way to keep practice going without needing a pitcher.
🏃♂️ Track & Field Must-Haves
Mini Hurdles
These are perfect for working on agility, speed, and coordination. Kids love hopping over them, and they can double as a fun backyard obstacle course. These are a great size for first-timers!
Foam or Kid-Friendly Javelins
Yes, you read that right! There are safe, lightweight javelins made just for kids. Great for developing throwing technique and upper body strength.
Squishy Shot Puts
Look for lighter shot puts made specifically for kids and beginners. They help build strength and teach proper form—without the intimidation factor. We love these catch tail style that kids enjoy watching fly through the air!
🏈 Football Must-Haves
Football Options (Kid-Sized Balls)
Smaller, grippier footballs are perfect for younger kids learning how to throw and catch. Foam footballs are great for younger players, while rubber footballs work for older kids.
Football Blow-Up Target
A blow-up football target adds a ton of fun to skill-building! Kids can work on their aim while having a blast tossing passes.
Ready, Set, Spring!
Equipping your child with the right gear doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Start with the basics, and let them grow into their sport. And remember—it’s not about having the fanciest equipment, it’s about having fun, staying active, and building confidence through play!
